"If you want the rainbow you have to deal with the rain."
"Rainbows have a way of making the world seem right."
"Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud."
“You’ll never find a rainbow if you’re looking down.”
Remembering the Original Rainbow
What does the rainbow represent?
Did something change?
The earliest recorded writings about rainbows are in the Bible. The book of Genesis explains the origins of the rainbow and what it represents. It involves God and all the people of the earth, and has been a part of the Judeo-Christian story, culture and tradition for thousands of years.
Cultural appropriation is the unacknowledged adoption of an element or elements of one culture or identity by members of another culture or identity.
Many groups have co-opted the rainbow to tell a different story, or to represent a different tradition or culture. Fortunately, the Judeo-Christian faith is designed to be appropriated and woven into all cultures and traditions the world over. This site and its symbols are not to challenge various cultural appropriations of the rainbow, but to remind us of who created the original rainbow and why.
